What is FFU?
FFU (Fan Filter Unit) is an air cleaning device, used to provide clean air to cleanroom in the plants of semiconductors, liquid crystal diodes, etc. Fan filter unit is installed on the grid ceiling system. In large cleanrooms, the number of equipment needed ranges from hundreds to thousands.
Why do we need fan filter unit (FFU)?

Fan filter unit structure
1. Housing
The FFU housing is made of galvanized steel, powder-coated steel, or stainless steel SUS 304. The housing material can be chosen according to customer's requirements

2. Fan
It sucks and blows the air towards HEPA filter.

3. FFU Filter
The filter used for FFU is HEPA filter or ULPA filter. This is the most important part of FFU, which filters the air and creates a fresh and clean environment.

4. Controller switch
Fan filter unit is equipped with a 3-level switch for speed control, and on/off switch. There are 3 levels of air velocity (low, medium, and high)

Fan filter unit working principle
- The air is pulled in from outside by the fan
- Then it is forced through the HEPA filter.
- HEPA filter traps the dust, bacteria and airborne particles, the filtered air goes out.
- The fan filter unit is unducted. Most of the time, fan filter unit pulls air from the ceiling plenum, pulls it out before it goes to space
What are the advantages of a cleanroom having FFUs?
1. Construction time can be shortened
2. Cleanliness level from class 1 to class 1000 can be set differently in each area
3. Because the opposite part of the ceiling has low pressure, the potential for this leakage is low
4. The arrangement of FFU partly decides the cleanroom construction method
5. The air velocity can be adjusted in each area
6. Flexible increase or change of the cleanroom is possible due to the arrangement of the fan filter unit.
Specifications of FFU - fan filter unit
FFU size: There are 2 common sizes on the market (LxWxD): 1175x575x250 mm and 575x575x250 mm
Airflow: The airflow of FFU is around 1000-1200 m3/h for FFU1175, and 600 m3/h for FFU575
Noise level: The noise in non-unidirectional airflow must not be louder than 60dB, while the noise in unidirectional airflow must not be greater than 65dB. Therefore, when choosing fan filter unit, the noise level of FFU is as low as possible.
Air velocity: The average air velocity is about 0.45m/s
Control system: DC motor is energy-saving and has a smart control, and lower noise, while AC motor has louder noise. The AC motor is much cheaper than DC motor.
Air filter: HEPA filter with efficiency up to 99.99% at 0.3 micron particles, ULPA filter with efficiency up to 99.99% at 0.1 micron particles
