1. What is laminar air flow?

Laminar airflow, also known as laminar air flow (LAF), is a device, designed to prevent the equipment and working environment from particles.

Laminar airflow units create particle-free working environments by sucking air through a filtration system and exhausting it across a work surface in a laminar air stream. They provide an excellent clean air environment for a number of cleanroom requirements.

2. Laminar airflow applications

Laminar airflow is suitable for a variety of applications, especially where a clean air environment is required for smaller items, like electronic devices.

Laminar airflow can be tailor-made to the specific requirements of the cleanrooms, especially in the medical, pharmaceutical, electronic, and industrial industries.

3. LAF structure

Laminar air flow unit is composed of 4 parts: fan, pre-filter, DOP test ports, HEPA filter

4. Laminar airflow features

+ Laminar air flow is made of stainless steel, with no gaps or joints

+ HEPA filtered airflow is sent through the work area that protects products and samples from airborne contamination

+ Built-in LED light

+ Differential pressure gauge monitors the integrity of HEPA filter

+ Clean air will be uniformly distributed

+ Laminar air flow unit (LAF) creates a positive pressure environment to prevent airborne particles from entering the working area

5. What is laminar air flow (LAF) working principle?

Laminar air flow unit works by the use of in-flow laminar air drawn through one or more HEPA filters, designed to create a particle-free working environment and provide product protection. Air is taken through a filtration system and then exhausted across the work surface as part of the laminar flows process.

Commonly, the filtration system comprises a pre-filter and a HEPA filter.

First, the air goes through the pre-filter (panel filter). Next, the fan blows the air towards the HEPA filter. HEPA filter captures the dust, bacteria, and airborne particles. Therefore, the HEPA filtered air is clean and particle-free.

6. Laminar airflow types

According to airflow direction, laminar flow cabinets can be produced in two common types: Vertical laminar flow unit & horizontal laminar flow unit

+ Vertical laminar flow unit

+ Horizontal laminar flow unit

All ensure a workspace devoid of contaminants and may be customed to the cleanroom requirements.
